OCFC 2 - Farnborough Town 2
Wednesday 6th September
City continued their unbeaten start in the Premier Division after an excellent comeback against Farnborough Town at Court Place Farm Stadium.
After an even start it was the visitors who snatched the lead after eleven minutes in the most fortunate of circumstances when an Alex Williams clearance ricocheted off a Farnborough forward and looped into the net.
Farnborough increased their lead 10 minutes later when a deflected cross was tucked in from close range. At this point, City seemed to have lost their shape and were being outfought in midfield and stretched down both flanks.
To their credit however, City showed great character and forced themselves back into contention. A good spell of pressure led to the impressive Mark Bell pulling a goal back in the 37th minute with a clever turn and well placed shot. City ended the half by forcing a series of corners which Farnborough managed to keep scrambling clear.
The second period saw City pressing for an equaliser with Stephen Davis always a danger on the left. The visitors still threatened occasionally on the break but were nowhere near as potent an attacking force as they had been in the first half.
Just when it looked as if City would not find the equaliser they deserved, Kieron Lewis forced the ball home from six yards after cleverly making room for himself following yet another period of City pressure – just reward for the team and for Lewis who had been majestic in the second half.
City continued to press forward in search of the winner, but in the end both teams had to be satisfied with after an excellent 90 minutes entertainment from both sides.
